Nata Libera, founded in 1998, is located in Piedmont
at the Scalveis Sanctuary, on the foothills of the Alps, approximately
40 kms from Turin. The location is beautiful, with hills and
woodlands, rising gently to a height of 750 m above sea level,
at the summit of the Serra. The sanctuary is bounded by the summit
of the Serra Morena on one side and the Viona mountain torrent
on the other.
On arrival at the Sanctuary the animals are usually desperately
in need of care and attention. After a period of rehabilitation
all of us concentrate our efforts on searching for a new home,
a location that will offer them dignity, respect and the peace
and tranquillity denied them in the past.
The animals rescued have suffered cruelty, been injured, strayed
or abandoned or have been held in captivity in unsatisfactory
conditions. In this calm and safe environment, no longer subject
to any form of stress, our animals gradually return to their
instinctive behaviour.
